Getting started
Your listing disappeared. Here are the nine reasons, in the order to check them.
A suppressed listing does not rank, does not convert and does not appear in search. Amazon rarely explains which rule you broke — but the causes are a short, checkable list, and most of them are covered in detail elsewhere on this site.

Nine causes · check in this order
Key takeaways
- Suppression is not a warning. The listing stops appearing in search until the underlying problem is fixed.
- Nine distinct causes account for nearly all of it, and they are checkable in about twenty minutes.
- Image compliance is the most common and the least obvious, because periodic sweeps suppressing listings that ran fine for weeks.
- Some of what looks like suppression is not: a missing Buy Box on a live listing is a different problem with a different cause.
- Stranded inventory — units in a fulfillment center with no active listing — is both a symptom and a separate cost, because it counts against your IPI while selling nothing.
Your listing is gone and Amazon has not told you why. The question arrives in different forms — the listing vanished, sessions collapsed, the ASIN says inactive — and the answer is a checklist, not an explanation.
Work down it. Each cause links to the guide with the detail.
011. Main image compliance
Check first, because it is the most common and the least visible.
suppression triggered by a background that is not exactly RGB 255, 255, 255, a product filling under 85% of the frame, prohibited text or logos, or resolution below 1,000 pixels.
And the silent version: a listing running fine for weeks, then caught by a periodic compliance sweep. A sudden session drop with no other explanation points here.
022. Barcode and GTIN verification
Amazon verifies barcodes against the GS1 database. where the brand or company associated with a GTIN does not match your seller account, the code is treated as invalid — producing listing suppression and ASIN creation blocks.
Also, since March 31, 2026: reseller inventory received without a proper FNSKU is classified as defective.

033. A restricted category or brand gate
Gating operates at category, brand and ASIN level independently. an individual ASIN can be blocked even after category and brand approval — flagged for safety, compliance, authenticity or dangerous goods.
→ Ungating and restricted categories
044. A dangerous goods review
Anything containing a lithium cell, pressurised, flammable, reactive or strongly magnetic can enter review. While it does, you cannot send inventory and existing stock may be held.
055. A compliance document request
Amazon requesting certificates at any time with a window of around 72 hours, and ASIN suspension as the consequence of missing it. Children’s Product Certificates, General Certificates of Conformity, test reports.
066. An intellectual property or authenticity complaint
A rights owner filed against the listing, or an inauthentic allegation was raised. These are not image or data problems and they do not resolve by editing the listing.
→ IP complaints · Suspension appeals
077. Insurance non-compliance
a window of typically 30 to 60 days to submit a compliant certificate of insurance before listings are suppressed, once you cross Amazon’s threshold of $10,000 in sales across three consecutive months.
088. Stranded inventory
Units sitting in a fulfillment center with no active listing attached. This is usually a symptom of one of the causes above rather than a cause itself — but it has its own cost, because stranded inventory percentage is one of the four factors in your IPI score, and it is storing product that cannot sell.
Reporting recommends resolving stranded listings within 48 hours as a standing habit.
099. Capacity restrictions
Not suppression, but frequently mistaken for it: you cannot send inventory in. Below the IPI threshold, Amazon caps capacity and can restrict inbound, and ASIN-level restock limits can throttle individual products.
10What is not suppression
Three things that look similar and are not, because the fix is different.
No Buy Box on a live listing. The page loses its Add to Cart button and buyers must click through to all buying options. this as generally meaning the lowest landed price on the listing sits high against prices Amazon sees at other retailers, with the Fair Pricing Policy suppressing the box rather than the listing. → Buy Box
Losing Buy Box share to another seller. Rotation, not suppression. The listing is fine; your offer is not winning. → Buy Box
A ranking decline. Gradual, not sudden, and usually conversion or stock related. rank erodes before a stockout actually happens, as raising prices to conserve inventory drops conversion. → Listing optimization
The distinction that separates them: suppression removes the listing from search entirely. If the listing is still findable, it is not suppressed, and you are looking at a different problem.
11The order to work in
- Open the Account Health dashboard. Policy notifications name the cause where one has been issued. Two minutes.
- Check Manage Inventory for the ASIN’s status and any listing limitation flags.
- Look at your own listing as a customer, on mobile. Findable or not decides which half of this page applies.
- Check the main image against RGB 255 with a color picker, and against the 85% rule.
- Check for stranded inventory — it often points at the cause.
- Work down causes 2 to 7 in order.
- Fix and resubmit, then verify the listing is findable again rather than assuming.
12Preventing most of it
Almost every cause above is a document or a specification collected in advance:
- A verified white canvas on every main image, checked before upload
- GS1 barcodes bought directly, with listing data matching the registration
- Compliance certificates filed per SKU so a 72-hour request is retrieval rather than research
- An SDS or exemption sheet on anything with a battery or chemical
- A certificate of insurance in place before the threshold
- Supplier invoices in the right form — see the supplier invoice
Six habits, one folder per SKU. That is the whole preventive program.
Start at number one and do not skip ahead to the cause you suspect. The order exists because sellers reliably guess wrong, and the image check takes ninety seconds.
Frequently asked
Why did my listing disappear from search?
Most commonly a main image compliance failure, which as sometimes arriving weeks later through a periodic sweep. Other causes include GTIN verification failure, a category or brand gate, a dangerous goods review, a compliance document request, an IP complaint, or insurance non-compliance.
How do I find out which rule I broke?
Start with the Account Health dashboard, where policy notifications name the cause when one has been issued, then Manage Inventory for the ASIN status and any listing limitation flags.
Is a missing Buy Box the same as suppression?
No. Suppression removes the listing from search. A missing Buy Box leaves the listing findable without an Add to Cart button, and it as usually meaning the lowest landed price is high against other retailers.
What is stranded inventory?
Units in a fulfillment center with no active listing attached. It is usually a symptom of another problem, and it has its own cost — stranded inventory percentage is one of four factors in your IPI score.
How fast do I need to respond to a compliance request?
a window of around 72 hours for certificate requests, with ASIN suspension as the consequence. That is retrieval time, not testing time — the document has to already exist.
How do I stop this happening?
Six things collected in advance: a verified white main image, GS1 barcodes bought directly with matching listing data, compliance certificates filed per SKU, an SDS or exemption sheet where relevant, insurance in place before the threshold, and supplier invoices in the right form.
